Like department and organization sites, lab and personal faculty websites are hosted in Tridion and have access to all the same features and functionality as a full department site.
Lab sites cannot be used for programs, centers or organizations focused on patient care. They are intended to help individual faculty promote their research and recruit well-qualified graduate students or post doctoral fellows.
It generally takes between 2 and 4 weeks to complete the initial build of a lab website, depending upon the amount of content to be included in the site.
To request a lab website, please email us.
There are two ways to make updates:
- We can train you or a member of your staff to make updates to the content on the site using the school's content management system and web applications. There are some parts of the site where the content will be automatically updated (e.g. People profiles when updated through profile.yale.edu and publications when updated in PubMed).
- The other way to make updates to the non-automated sections of the site is to work with our group to make the updates as needed. We will provide two updates to the static pages of your site per year. If you do not think two updates per year will be sufficient to keep your site up to date, please let us know and we can work with you to find an alternative solution.
There are two different parts to the design of the website:
- The website template, which covers the basic design of the site including navigation layout, site title area, left column footer, colors, and
- The content area on each page (center white area on the screen below the navigation bar).
In the website template, you can choose from different color schemes (see http://medicine.yale.edu/lab/examples/index.aspx for the options). In the content area there are many different layouts available. If you look through the "Design Examples" section of our website, most of the content templates in the main content area of the pages are also available in the lab templates (on our site they are shown in the main departmental template, but these are also available in the lab template). If you have a specific layout in mind, let us know and we can give you options.
Apart from design, any of the content on the site can be altered, including the navigation labels and structure.
You or a member of your staff is responsible for generating and maintaining content on the website. Similar to how your previous website was updated, we could give access to your departmental website editor to make the updates, we could train a member of your staff, or we could help you make updates.
For the content coming from the automated systems (profiles and publications), we would teach you or a member of your staff how to easily make updates. For example, whenever you update your profile on profile.yale.edu, within 24 hours it will automatically update any YSM website that displays your profile (e.g. your lab website, main departmental website, etc.).
