Standard Questions

The Standard Questions category includes the following types of format: Multiple Choice, Text Entry, Rank Order, Matrix Table, Slider, and Side by Side - which are all described below. The questions can be used to accomplish most of the features offered in the Yale Form Builder, including the Text box, Paragraph Text, Check Boxes, Option Buttons, Select List, Street Address, Birthdate, and Calendar formats. These questions provide you with a variety of tools to gain the answers to simple questions.

The Multiple Choice question allows you to format a question in which the respondent is prompted by several answer options. Qualtrics allows you to format this question to accept either a single response - using radio buttons, dropdown list, or select box - or multiple responses - collected using check boxes or a combination box. This allows you to achieve the same functionality you wold have been offered using the "Check Boxes," "Option Buttons," or "Select List," in the retired Form Builder.

The Text Entry option allows you to collect user text input for the answer to your question. These fields can be used for short answers, mid-length answers, and paragraph answers. This question serves the same purpose as the "Text Box" and "Paragraph Text" features in the retired Form Builder.

The Rank Order question type can be used to gather user preference in a series of options. For example, if you wanted to see on which day of the week people preferred to meet, users could drag and drop the listed days of the week into the order that most suited them.

The Matrix Table Questions allows for you to gather the same type of response for several items at a time, gathered within a Matrix layout. The Matrix layout can be manipulated in several ways, including Likert, Bipolar (or Double Axis), Rank Order, Constant Sum, Text Entry, Profile, or MaxDiff. For more information about this question type, please visit the Qualtrics Support page about Matrix Tables.

The Slider Question Type in Qualtrics allows respondents to indicate visually their scaled response to a particular question. For more information about this particular question type, please see the Qualtrics Support site section regarding Slider Questions

Side-by-Side questions allow the respondent to answer nuanced questions in a single line requiring more than one type of response. For example, a respondent is able to evaluate their opinion of a particular item using a Matrix format indicating Satisfaction, and then specify why they hold that particular opinion in a Text Entry format.
